Values

Children, family, men, women, and wisdom, in the words of the King James. The summary is short. The verse is the proof.

Children

A child is called a gift, not a burden. The grown ones are told to teach the words of God in the ordinary hours of the house, and not to push a child toward anger. The child is told to obey. Jesus says the little ones are not to be turned away from him.

Family

A household begins with a man leaving his parents and cleaving to his wife, and with that bond left intact. The house is blessed when it fears the Lord. Joshua's line is the family creed. In one chapter, wives, children, and fathers each receive a word.

Men

A husband is told to love his wife the way Christ loved the church, to live with her with understanding and honour, and to provide for his own house. Strength is standing fast in the faith. What the Lord requires of a man is justice, mercy, and a humble walk. His integrity is what his children inherit.

Women

The virtuous woman is valued above rubies. Her clothing is strength and honour, her mouth is wisdom and kindness, and her praise is that she fears the Lord, not that she is decorated. Younger women are taught to love husband and children. The same verse that tells a wife to reverence her husband tells him to love her as himself.

Wisdom

Wisdom is not a trick of the mind. It begins with the fear of the Lord, it is given by him, and it is found in Christ. A person who lacks it is told to ask. It is worth more than rubies, and the end of the matter is to fear God and keep his commandments.
